Laser skin procedures are touted for their ability to rejuvenate the skin by reducing the appearance of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation – without the need for surgery. Although laser treatments are not considered surgical procedures, they should be performed under the guidance of a qualified physician and they are associated with some pain and skin discoloration in the days following surgery. While laser skin patients are usually able to complete routine tasks immediately after treatment, they may want to take a few days off of work or school to allow the skin to heal.
Skin Tightening
This procedure involves use of an infrared light source, which heats deeper layers of collagen and causes the skin to contract, or tighten. Though firmer skin is immediately visible following treatment, most patients experience a redness of the skin in the days after the procedure. For men and women with more severe wrinkles, a series of two to three treatments over a period of three months may be recommended.
Skin Resurfacing
During the skin resurfacing procedure, a laser is used to remove outer layers of skin, revealing a smoother, more even-toned complexion beneath. This procedure is ideal for patients who have minor to moderate facial wrinkling, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and acne scars.
IPL Photofacial Treatments
The IPL Photofacial treatment uses flashes of intense light on the skin’s problem areas. The high-energy light stimulates collagen production, improving the skin’s appearance. However, a series of three to five IPL treatments is typically needed to achieve desired results.
Blue Light Acne Therapy
This treatment involves use of an intense blue light that kills acne-causing bacteria that form in the sebaceous gland. Blue light acne therapy can drastically reduce breakouts and acne in teenage and adult patients. In general, acne therapy treatments are performed on a weekly basis until there is a significant improvement in the patient’s complexion.
